The 66 sheets of the series “La Célestine” were also created within Suite 347. This was published in an unsigned book edition, but also, like Suite 347, in a small edition of 50 signed and numbered prints. In Célestine, Picasso illustrates a Spanish literary classic from the 16th century, which deals with the tragic love story of the nobleman Calisto and the commoner"s daughter Melibea. Since she initially rejects his love, Calisto turns to the matchmaker Célestine, who, together with her accomplices, wants to squeeze as much money as possible out of the unlucky lover.
