This work is believed to be older than Lot 104 and is the head of a Northern Wei style flying heaven statue with an old smile. It is said that it was sent to Japan before the war. Compared to the Buddha statues in Dunhuang and the Gran Cave, Longmen Grottoes has a long face, a long neck, stroked shoulders, and is more delicate, splendid, and more Chinese. Longmen Grottoes is a cave temple located in the south of Luoyang, Henan Province, China, where a limestone rocky mountain was excavated. It lasted for about 250 years from the relocation of Northern Wei to Luoyang in 494 to the middle of the Tang dynasty, with 1352 caves and about 100,000 Buddha statues engraved on it. In 2000, it was registered as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site as "Longmen Grottoes". Compared with Yungang' sandstone, which had many colossal statues, the Longmen Grottoes's works are considered to be more delicate and gorgeous because of the fine peridotite.
