A POPE PIUS IX HAND SIGNED APOSTOLIC BENEDICTION, 1856 AND A HAND WRITTEN NOTE BY POPE JOHN XXIII, AS ANGELO GIUSEPPE RONCALLI, DATED 1948. The first a beautifully hand inscribed letter with elaborate calligraphy rendered in Latin and addressed to Silvester Camerini, count and commander of the Gonfaloniere Knights of Ferrara. The text reads ”Pius Pontifex IX. Greetings and apostolic benediction to our sons. We have received your letter dated from the end of last year from which we understand the kind wishes made toward Us in the course of our peaceful and happy Apostolic reign. We render thanks for your filial compliance and sense of duty toward us and we humbly beseech the most loving kind Jesus to multiply and protect the gift of His heavenly grace upon you. We lovingly impart the pledge of our paternal charity, wishes for prosperity to each and every one of you, beloved sons, and grant the Apostolic Benediction. Dated in Rome at St. Peter"s, the 8th day of March, 1856, during the 10th year of Our Pontificate [signed] Pius IX.” Professionally framed and matted with engraving of the Holy Father. Size of letter 8.1 inches x 8.1 inches (20.5 x 20.5 cm). The second a five line handwritten note in Italian on Roncalli"s imprinted notecard as Apostolic Nuncio to France. It reads ”Holy Saturday 1948. I take this opportunity to wish the good and dearest Mr. & Mrs. (Antonio M.) Colini-Lombardi a Happy Easter. Alleluia.” Professionally preserved in glazed gilt frame with moiré silk mat together with a photo of Roncalli as Pope John XXIII and with commemorative coin.
