FOUR MIXED-METAL TSUBA (HAND GUARDS)
Edo period (1615-1868) or Meiji era (1868-1912), 19th century
Comprising a circular copper migakiji tsuba chiseled in sunken and low relief and inlay of silver, gold, and shakudō with a swimming carp and crashing waves, signed Takeshima Toshitaka and with a kaō ;
a brass and copper tsuba shaped as two puppies playing among rice sheaves chiseled in relief, with gilt highlights, signed Kunichika ;
a rounded rectangular brass migakiji tsuba with a slightly raised rim, chiseled in sunken relief and inlaid of gold, copper silver, and shakudō takazōgan with Shōki, the reverse with a fleeing oni climbing a pine tree, inscribed Tsuchiya Yoshichika and with a kaō ;
and a rounded square copper migakiji tsuba with a slightly raised rim chiseled and inlaid of gold and silver takazōgan with Yu Rang seated cutting the robes of Viscount Xiang of Zhao, the reverse with a wooden bridge; each with a wood tomobako storage box
