INLAID LACQUER, The shape rounded and rectangular with a domed kabusebuta (overhanging lid) with a priest and a courtier on the exterior, most likely Sōjō Henjō and Fumi"ya no Yasuhide respectively, their faces and clothes expressed in gold maki e , nashiji , shell, pewter, clear lacquer, and gold flake, the interior of the lid with the design of flowers including hydrangea, golden lace, and bellflower, calligraphic characters of a poem expressed in pewter and shell, the interior of the box similarly lacquered with flowers and calligraphy, structural indentations containing the suzuri (ink grinding stone), and a metal rectangular suiteki (water dropper)
