Description

PABLO PICASSO (after)

Bacchanale .

Color aquatint, circa 1960. 475x560 mm; 18 3/4x22 1/8 inches, full margins. Signed and numbered 202/300 in pencil, lower margin. Published by Crommelynck, Paris, with the blind stamp lower left. A brilliant, richly-inked impression of this large print with vibrant colors.

Based on the same-titled oil painting, completed circa 1955. The narrative of this painting highlights the theme of Greek mythology with which Picasso was preoccupied throughout his career, and the deliberate composition of the figures reflects his renewed focus on the works of Francisco José de Goya and Diego Velázquez.
